Sharon DFI week 1

Today is the first day of winter. which was a beautiful sunny day.  It was also the first session of the DFI course.

The today's course was like the tide - it ebbed and flowed.  When the flowing was happening, things went really smoothly.  Things seemed to click into place and made perfect sense.  The ebbing was a totally different story.  Each ebb felt like a brick wall, the impact left me seeing stars and tiny little birds.  This was mostly due to feeling dumb and a lot slow.  I guess the positive was that there were far more "flows" than "ebbs".  The "ah moment" for me was that I am not really a risk taker.  Not the best ah moment but none-the-less, something to look and improve.

  2. Kia Ora Sharon,

I love how honest you are in your post but you absolutely shouldn't feel dumb. Look at what you have produced! It's wonderful! Be proud.

I can't wait to watch your confidence grow over the next few weeks! You've got this :)

    See you next time!

  3. Kia ora Sharon, I agree with the words of the previous two commenters. You are doing great! I love the way you have described your feelings throughout the day. It made me feel good as you seemed to have been challenged (which is a good thing) and had moments where things flowed more easily - also a good thing. You know you have support during the week to help with things you felt challenging. It would be great for Teresa to consolidate her knowledge passing it on to you. Khismira is in your school each week, as is Fiona. You have a tribe :)

    1. Thank you Dorothy, I do so appreciate your wisdom at times like these. I know that challenge is a very good thing even though there are times challenges can just be painful before it gets to be a very good thing. Perseverance is the backbone in this journey.

  4. Ata Mārie Sharon, thank you so much for sharing your honest words of reflection. Ka mau te wehi! Good on you for being willing and ready to jump on in and try new things even when they are challenging and daunting. Remember when things are ebbing and not flowing, there are many of us that are right there to support you! It is often in those "brick wall" moment that strengths grow and develop!

    1. Kia ora Gerhard, I agree with your thoughts and ideas. Something I've decided to do during those ebbing moments is to look for the pipi and cats eyes while the tide is out. Just until the tide turns and I can start to swim again.
