Term 3 teaching as inquiry

My teaching as inquiry for term 3/4.   This is an area that some of my boys need to focus on.  They are starting to sacrifice quality for quantity.

Running dictation second session

Room 9 have just completed their second running dictation session. This one worked so much better due to clarity of parameters. I tried to extend the activity by getting the students to write a short response to the text. Most of the class didn't do this part. I have to wonder if I either did not clearly explain what the next step was, or that it was too difficult for them to shift their thinking from the activity to what may have appeared to them, a new activity.  Here are some images and a short video from the activity.

Below is a short video with Halasika sharing his thoughts about this activity.

Running dictation pilot

It has been great to have Jane supporting our school with oral language. After a short meeting she suggested that I could try a running dictation activity. My teaching as inquiry was set up around boys engagement in writing.  My inquiry focus and plan and included.  Below are some pictures of them working on the running dictation activity.

Tititoria with room 12

The Y7 group continued on with their tititoria. Each group extendingthe distance they were throwing and catching.  It was great to see them working together and doing everything they could to help their buddy be successful.  Well done everyone.

Setting up student blogs.

I'm often amazed that I am able to retain information that is useless in any other forum except maybe a quiz night.  Now that I think about it, I'm not even sure that information is good for that event.  To keep it short (or shorter) but sweet, I have been attempting to set up my student's individual blogs.  I have not had much success at all.  That is until a very talented and helpful teacher sat with me after school and jogged my memory.  Thank you Teresa.  I really couldn't have done any of this without your help.
While this could be a depressing thing to have happen, I generally try to find the silver lining in the cloud.  So my bright part or glimmer of hope in all of this is that I can now use screencastify to forever have the steps and processes there for me so I do not have to remember.  Phewwwww!!!!

This image shows some of the best people I could have had enter my life.  I say some because not all of them where present for the photo shoot.

My last entry for this session of the DFI second cohort of the year.
